Black Bears

A common sighting along the Rogue River and in the greater area is the North American Black Bear.



Black Bear Facts:

Mostly vegetarian.  Eats berries, twigs, young shoots and roots.  It also enjoys beetles, ants, and bee larvae eaten with honey.  Sometimes fish and small animals are eaten when they can be easily caught.

Varies in color from cinnamon to black.

Generally weigh between 100 and 300 pounds.

Mature bears are around three feet tall at the shoulder.
