Rogue River's Wildcat Rapids

This shot was taken in late June of 2008 and shows a group of inflatable kayaks making the fun rolly-polly whitewater ride through Wildcat Rapids. This rapid is labeled a Class III. The rapid was formed because the Rogue splits as it passes around a gravel bar and then it curves to the right. The kayakers are shown here moving through the right hand side of the rapid. A boulder-strewn stretch of water lies at the end of the rapid making it important for kayakers and rafters alike to stay right of center on this rapid.

Baby Blacktail Beauties!

Aren't these twins just the cutest creatures ever! This photo was taken near Black Bar Lodge on the Rogue River...where blacktail deer like these two love to live.

The Red Butte Wilderness section of the Siskiyou Moutains is home to these beautiful creatures (and many others) and provides the perfect environment for them to thrive. Red Butte is the craggy portion of the Siskiyou Mountains which forms the watershed divide between the Rogue River and Klamath River drainages. An absolutely stunning forest parcel with many one-of-a-kind flora and fauna.

No wonder the Rogue is so pristine. With its watershed drainage coming from Red Butte, animals and people thrive!

Stay*ca*tion

One of Whitewater Warehouse's youngest marketers--21-year-old Alex Patterson--sent an email to us suggesting that we might want to talk about the "staycations" travel trend. Since we LOVE portmanteaus words here at WWW, we thought it a great idea to talk about how this is affecting our 2008 rafting and kayaking clientele.

All this season, we have seen an upswing in customers who are traveling to raft and kayak the Rogue River with us--especially those that live within an 8-hour drive of the Rogue. That means folks from Seattle, Washington, to San Francisco, California, have been "staycationing" with us.

With the U.S. economy sagging and the nationwide average price of unleaded regular gas surging over $4 per gallon, a pricey destination holiday is beyond the reach of many Americans. Not wanting to experience a summer devoid of well-deserved R & R, many singles and families are trading in their overseas travel plans for a close-to-home vacation.

We are seeing many, many more last minute frantic calls to book trips--which means you better look at your August calendar and compare it against WWW's since there is precious little space available this year. Our calendar can give you the skinny on what's still open. If however, you have specific times and we are full on those dates, don't hesitate to call our staff. We can probably hook you up with another quality Rogue River outfitter who does have room for you!

Thanks for the blog idea, Alex! You are totally coolalious (hee, hee our portmanteau word for the day!!!)

Great Rafting, Fresh Food!

Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, oh my! Whitewater Warehouse's dedication to buying food-fresh-from-the-source for its whitewater rafting trips is chronicled in this photo taken July 4. While purchasing fruit for the July 5 & 6 weekend rafting and kayaking trips, Whitewater Warehouse staff snapped this image at the local farmer's cool barn.

Now, really, how many whitewater rafting companies in this world are dedicated to making sure their clients enjoy the freshest produce on the planet while rafting perhaps the most beautiful wild and scenic river...the Rogue River?!?

It is this attention to detail that really sets the company apart. Check out the listing of local farmers and food artisans that Whitewater Warehouse partners with by clicking on great rafting food!

Hmmmm....Smelly Good!

This photo of a Rogue River wild azalea was shot just a couple days ago while rafting the Rogue River. Since the photo was taken, we've had a heat wave on the river (over the weekend temperatures went over 100 degrees) so these beauties have probably wilted.

Before you leave this life, you really must see and smell the flowers of this unique and beautiful plant. In fact, the Rogue River's most famous rapid--Blossom Bar--was named after the wild azalea's incredible blossoms which bloom along the famous rapid's riverbanks.
