One of Whitewater Warehouse's youngest marketers--21-year-old Alex Patterson--sent an email to us suggesting that we might want to talk about the "staycations" travel trend. Since we LOVE portmanteaus words here at WWW, we thought it a great idea to talk about how this is affecting our 2008 rafting and kayaking clientele.
All this season, we have seen an upswing in customers who are traveling to raft and kayak the Rogue River with us--especially those that live within an 8-hour drive of the Rogue. That means folks from Seattle, Washington, to San Francisco, California, have been "staycationing" with us.
With the U.S. economy sagging and the nationwide average price of unleaded regular gas surging over $4 per gallon, a pricey destination holiday is beyond the reach of many Americans. Not wanting to experience a summer devoid of well-deserved R & R, many singles and families are trading in their overseas travel plans for a close-to-home vacation.
We are seeing many, many more last minute frantic calls to book trips--which means you better look at your August calendar and compare it against WWW's since there is precious little space available this year. Our calendar can give you the skinny on what's still open. If however, you have specific times and we are full on those dates, don't hesitate to call our staff. We can probably hook you up with another quality Rogue River outfitter who does have room for you!
Thanks for the blog idea, Alex! You are totally coolalious (hee, hee our portmanteau word for the day!!!)
